Host Whiz Kidz Teacher Workshops

 Mobile, AL – Jubilee BEST, a premier educational and workforce development program that impacts nearly 40 Gulf Coast schools and more than 1,300 students, is holding its annual summer workshops July 13-14 and July 20-21 in the Whiz Kidz Lab, presented by the Mobile Airport Authority Foundation and Airbus Americas, Inc. BEST has invited more than 32 middle and high school teachers representing 22 public, private and home-schools across Mobile and Baldwin counties to use the Whiz Kidz Lab to help improve and develop new skills to take to their classrooms this fall.

 

"We are pleased that teachers and students from Mobile and Baldwin Counties are utilizing Whiz Kidz as the resource it was meant to be,” stated Michelle Hurdle, Director of Economic and Community Development, Airbus Americas, Inc.  "We appreciate the local businesses that have helped make the Whiz Kidz Lab a reality: Alabama Power, Thompson Foundation, Hargrove Foundation and Turner Supply Company.”

This workshop will focus on 3D printing, CNC machining, CorelDraw design software and Sublimation printing. Through 3D printing and CNC machining, BEST teams will have the opportunity to mimic real-world industry by fabricating and manufacturing BEST robot components. Introducing CorelDraw and sublimation also provides BEST teams with the knowledge and skills for a high-tech printing process that can be applied to multi-faceted applications in business and industry.

"We’re extremely pleased to host this excellent educational program at Mobile’s Downtown Airport at Brookley Field,” stated Mark McVay, MAA Interim Executive Director. "It’s so important for this community to meet the future employment needs of the fast-growing aerospace industry in Southern Alabama centered around the City of Mobile,” continued McVay.
