Michael E. Pierce

Michael E Pierce is a 1991 graduate of Tulane University where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management. While at Tulane, he excelled as a student athlete becoming Tulane’s All Purpose Yardage Leader and Pre-Season Street & Smith All-American candidate in 1989 after having graduated from Murphy High School in Mobile Alabama as the All-Time Leading Rusher three years earlier. Pierce was invited to join the NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles as a free agent in 1990. Unfortunately, a lingering knee injury caused his retirement before his NFL career could begin. 

Michael is Executive Director of the MLK Avenue Redevelopment Corporation (MLKARC). His primary responsibility is to develop and implement a comprehensive community and economic redevelopment program in the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue community. Since its inception in 1993, MLKARC has invested HUD HOME Funds in excess of $10 million to construct 126 new affordable homes benefiting several hundred Low–Moderate Income Mobilians. In 1999 MLKARC invested $1 million to develop commercial retail space along the MLK corridor. At the time of its development of Lincoln Square represented the first new commercial project in the community in over 50 years. MLKARC recently broke ground on Renaissance Plaza Phase I, a 13,750 square foot retail center being constructed on the southeast corner of Broad and Lyons. The $2.5 million retail center will provide residents convenient access to goods, services and employment opportunities. Renaissance Plaza Phase II, a 25,000 square foot retail center will likely to house a large national chain tenant. Michael is also President of the Gulf Coast Region for A.G. Gaston Construction. His responsibilities include directing sales, marketing, operations and financial performance across a geographic area encompassing the coastal areas of Florida, Alabama and Mississippi. 

Pierce is also active in civic, community and religious affairs. He is chairman of the Board of Directors at Commonwealth National Bank, Co-Chair of Mayor-elect Sandy Stimpson’s Transition Team, Past-Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce and Past-President of the Rotary Club of Mobile. He serves on the board of the Mobile Arts & Sports Association and is chairman of the Senior Bowl Hall of Fame Committee. He has also served on the board of the Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce. Pierce, founding pastor of New Life Ministries, has previously served on the ministerial staffs of New Hope Baptist Church and Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. Pierce is married to wife, Daphne, and they have two sons, Michael, Jr. and Myles.
