Mayor Stimpson to lead industry recruiting trip to Singapore

MOBILE, Ala. - Mayor Sandy Stimpson will lead a local trade delegation to Singapore on Friday to participate in the Singapore Airshow 2016.

The mission of the trip is to continue the city’s recruitment of aerospace jobs, build relationships with prospective employers in the aviation industry and share the city’s story with a global audience.

"This is an exciting time for Mobile as we are emerging as a top destination for aerospace companies around the world,” Mayor Stimpson said. "Aerospace is a primary target of our economic development strategy, and the global competition for these jobs is intense. We intend to capitalize on Mobile’s positive momentum as we meet with key decision makers at the air show in Singapore.”

The Singapore Airshow, the largest in Asia, is held every two years and is attended by high-level government and military delegations, as well as senior corporate executives from the world’s leading aerospace and defense firms. This year’s show, which runs from February 16-21, is scheduled to include 274 delegations from 76 countries and regions, in addition to worldwide media.

The local delegation will include representatives from the Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce and the Mobile Airport Authority.

The delegation is scheduled to meet with aerospace firms including Singapore Technologies Engineering Ltd., among others. The company, based in Singapore, employs about 1,500 in Mobile at its VT/MAE aircraft maintenance and repair hub at the Brookley Aeroplex. VT/MAE celebrated its 25th anniversary in Mobile last year.

Mayor Stimpson is scheduled to return to Mobile on Thursday, February 18.
