JOB TITLE:              Accounting Specialist

REPORTS TO:         Senior Accountant

FLSA STATUS:        Non-Exempt


To assist the Sr. Accountant in the day-to-day operations of the accounting office and to serve as backup on specific accounting functions. i.e. receivables, ledger, accounts payables.


Process accounts payable in a timely manner and makes sure that all backup is attached with the invoices for audit purposes. Verify, reconcile and confirm GL accounts for all invoices.  To maintain vendor information, including address, contact, and ACH information.  Work with the maintenance department to make sure that the purchase orders are processed as quickly as possible for the repairs are done and not held up.  Reconciliations of assigned accounts including general ledger and bank accounts.  To be cross-trained and on request be the backup for AR, that would require applying all deposits to appropriate customer invoices.  Run account receivable invoices monthly and statements, mail to tenants, files copies in receivable files.  Maintains current accounts receivable files and correspondence. Check with the properties department before billing starts each month to make sure all receivables are up to date.  This will ensure that all new and terminated leases have been entered.  Once the receivables have been invoiced an aging schedule will be run and given to the Vice President of Finance and the property department for collections on all past due accounts.  Maintains customer confidence and protects operations by keeping financial information confidential.  Responds promptly and courteously to tenant questions or problems regarding monthly billings. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills

Good knowledge of Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable operations and accounting is required.  Excellent computer skills including Excel and Word are required with experience/knowledge of other accounting systems preferred.  Good oral and written communication skills required.  Strong teamwork, analytical, and interpersonal skills required.  Excellent attention to accuracy and details required.  Must be confidential and have the ability to meet deadlines.

Minimum Training and Experience

A college degree, preferable in Accounting.  Other accounting-related training and/or certification a plus.  A minimum of five (5) years of work experience as an Accountant or similar position is Highly Desirable.

Environmental Requirements

Generally, works in an office environment; ability to sit for extended periods of time.
