Michigan Avenue and Broad Street Intersection to Close November 2 for Airport Roadway Improvements
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MOBILE, Ala. (October 23, 2026) — The Mobile Airport Authority (MAA) will close the intersection of Michigan Avenue and Broad Street beginning Monday, November 2, as construction continues on a new roundabout that will serve as the primary entrance to Mobile International Airport (BFM).
The closure is expected to remain in place through March 22, 2027.
The roundabout is part of roadway improvements underway ahead of the new airport terminal's anticipated opening in spring 2027. The project is designed to address existing traffic challenges while improving access and safety for airport travelers and surrounding businesses.
“This intersection is already struggling to accommodate the traffic it sees today, and we know that demand will only increase when the new terminal opens,” said Adam Hays, Acting Executive Director of the Mobile Airport Authority. “The new roundabout will improve traffic flow and safety for everyone traveling through the area. We appreciate the community's patience as we complete this work ahead of the airport's opening.”
Beginning November 2:
- Michigan Avenue: Closed from south of Interstate 10 to Avenue I.
- Broad Street: Closed west of 3rd Street.
- Businesses east of Michigan Avenue: Access via the Duval Street or Broad Street exits from I-10.
- Businesses south of Broad Street: Access via Perimeter Road and Dauphin Island Parkway.
- Fixed Base Operators (FBOs): Access via the designated Perimeter Road detour to Michigan Avenue.
Drivers should follow posted detour signs and allow additional travel time.
Construction dates and traffic patterns are subject to change. MAA will provide updates as needed.
