Job Summary

 

The Information Technology (IT) Specialist is responsible for the administration, maintenance, and support of the Authority’s technology infrastructure, including servers, networks, cloud services and cybersecurity systems. This position provides technical expertise, troubleshooting, and project support to internal departments and external vendors. Work is performed independently under the general supervision of the Information Technology Manager.  

 

Job Responsibilities

• Administer and support core IT systems, including servers, networks, and cloud platforms.
• Monitor system performance, availability, and security across infrastructure environments.
• Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and network issues in a timely manner.
• Manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls (e.g., Active Directory, IAM)
• Support virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V) and storage systems.
• Maintain and support backup and disaster recovery solutions.
• Assist in network configuration, including VLANs, routing, switching, and firewall policies.
• Deploy, configure, and maintain endpoints (workstations, laptops, mobile devices)
• Document system configurations, processes, and troubleshooting procedures.
• Participate in IT projects, including system upgrades, migrations, and new deployments.
• Coordinate with vendors and third-party service providers as needed.
• Ensure compliance with organizational security policies and industry standards.
• On-site at multiple MAA locations.
• May require occasional after-hours support or on-call rotation.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills

• Operating Systems: Windows Server, Linux (basic to intermediate)
• Networking: TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, VLANs, firewalls
• Cloud Platforms: Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud (preferred)
• Virtualization: VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V
• Identity & Access: Active Directory, Azure AD, MFA
• Backup Solutions: Veeam, Commvault, or similar
• Endpoint Management: Kaseya, PRTG, or equivalent
• Scripting: PowerShell (preferred), Bash 
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Customer-focused mindset with a commitment to service excellence
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Team-oriented with strong collaboration skills

Education/Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, or related field or 3 years’equivalent experience.
• 3–6 years of hands-on IT experience in systems or network administration
• Relevant certifications preferred (e.g., CompTIA Network+, Security+, Microsoft, Cisco)
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
• Excellent communication and documentation abilities

Licenses and/or Certifications

Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Alabama driver’s license and be insurable.
