18% Passenger Increase Ranks As 3rd Best March in Airport’s History
Only 1997 & 1998 Ranked Higher
Mobile Regional Airport today released passenger enplanement numbers for March 2017 as reported by the airlines serving Mobile. A total of 28,698 passengers boarded commercial aircraft at Mobile Regional Airport in March. In March 2016 there were 24,315 passengers who flew from Mobile Regional Airport. This resulted in an 18% year-over-year increase.
The Airport has seen positive growth for 11 consecutive months. This marks the longest steak of growth since the mid-1990's. In the mid 1990’s Mobile Regional was served by former low cost carrier AirTran, which left Mobile after 1998 and merged with Southwest Airlines in December 2014.
“2017 has started out with passenger numbers we haven’t seen here since the 1990’s ” stated Brian Belcher, the airport’s Director of Marketing & Air Service Development. “These numbers were boosted in part by the capacity added by American Airlines on their Dallas route using the larger CRJ-900 jet. We’re happy all three of our airline partners serving Mobile Regional Airport saw significant increases in March.”
