MOBILE AIRPORT AUTHORITY
MASTER PLAN

Message from the
President

Welcome to the website for the Mobile Downtown Airport Master Plan!

The Mobile area has experienced a long run of opportunity for our community and region with economic growth. This has been especially evident with the industrial expansion of Airbus and related aviation development at the Brookley Aeroplex, and the successful demonstration of commercial air service for passengers at the Mobile Downtown Airport. While there is no doubt that the aviation industry has been severely impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic, the market will rebound.

A feasibility study conducted in 2018 determined that it was both feasible and critical for the Mobile Airport Authority to move commercial air passenger service from the Mobile Regional Airport in west Mobile to the Mobile Downtown Airport in order to re-capture passenger traffic. The reasoning in that study remains sound, and this is actually a good time to be developing and implementing a plan to recapture that market when it returns. Learn more in the video below.

The Mobile Airport Authority, its Board of Directors and Staff, along with the Federal Aviation Administration and consulting experts Leigh Fisher, are developing a Master Plan which will support the aerospace and related industries at the Brookley Aeroplex, while also designing options, alternatives and a process for a complete relocation of commercial air passenger service from Mobile Regional Airport to the Mobile Downtown Airport. The Master Plan will direct our efforts to more effectively serve the regional market, creating competitive service that delivers more options and cost savings for our customers. Improving service is critical to improving our opportunities for economic development, jobs and quality of life into the future.

We need and encourage your participation in this process to create a thoughtful and successful plan. This website will provide access to pertinent information related to the Master Plan, including meeting dates, project schedule, contact information and regular posting of project information, so please take the opportunity to look over these materials, share with others, provide us with your feedback, and visit us often. We appreciate your serving with us to bring air service in the Mobile region to its full potential.

Sincerely,
Chris Curry
