The Mobile Airport Authority proposes the addition of a new terminal for passenger service at the Mobile Downtown Airport. Currently, passenger service in the Mobile area is at the Mobile Regional Airport west of downtown. An existing building at the Mobile Downtown Airport was used temporarily by one airline for passenger service from mid-2019 to mid-2020. The new terminal will be larger and house multiple airlines. The project would involve constructing a new passenger terminal (initially with 5 gates and then expanded as demand grows) and supporting parking, roadway, and other paved areas to accommodate the passengers and planes using the terminal.

 Once the new terminal is constructed, the long-term plan is to move all passenger service from the Regional Airport to the Downtown Airport. The new terminal will be more easily accessible to downtown Mobile and also closer to the Mobile Aeroplex at Brookley and other growing commercial areas. This is the first phase in the Mobile Airport Authority Master Plan, which is available at this link: https://www.mobileairportauthority.com/masterplan.

 A public meeting will be held virtually on Monday, August 30th, 2021 at 5:30 p.m. Comments and questions on the project can be submitted via email, mail, or phone until September 13, 2021 (contact information is below). The Environmental Assessment summarizes potential impacts of the proposed project.
